Oil Paintings
John produces his own paints by mixing soaps, waxes and resins with specially prepared linseed, walnut, sunflower or almond oils and binding these media with the best pigments on the market. This ancient artisan approach can be traced back to the very invention of oil painting as a discipline and has been used less and less since the arrival of mass-produced art supplies. John is uniquely placed in this space of the art world, having experimented and perfected his own techniques and recipes over decades.
The knowledge of processes and ingredients is only one aspect of John’s approach to oil painting: He has also developed his own approach to perfecting the process of glazing layer upon layer of transparent paint, so as to create an illusion of depth and modelling objects in brilliantly glowing colour which is capable of withstanding the test of time itself.
